Program Design

Posit Science programs take a novel, non-invasive approach to improving cognitive function in adults. Our programs engage the brain’s neuroplasticity to target the root causes of changes in brain function that occur with age, rather than teaching how to compensate for those changes or drilling memory. This approach enables our programs to make widespread, “generalized” improvements in brain function.

More about our program design:

Targeting Root Problems
As the brain grows older, it gradually loses speed, accuracy and recording strength for processing information from the senses. This results in a progressive loss of memory and other cognitive abilities. Our global team of scientists has designed our programs to:

  • Speed up brain function
In every program exercise, the sensory stimuli (sounds or visual information) begin at a slower pace and gradually speed up with the aim of retraining the brain to process information at high speeds.
  • Improve accuracy
Our programs incorporate patented technology that algorithmically processes and adjusts the stimuli based on user responses with the goal of helping the brain refine its accuracy.
  • Strengthen recording
Several program elements are specifically designed to exercise the brain machinery that accounts for recording strength.

The Brain Fitness Program focuses on these objectives for the auditory system (processing sound), while InSight does this for the visual system (processing visual information). Read more about our our roots up approach.

SAAGE Design Protocol
Posit Science programs are designed using a special protocol known as SAAGE to improve the brain’s ability to receive, interpret, and store the information it receives from the senses. A scientifically verified set of compliance standards, the SAAGE protocol is based on a specific, data-driven understanding of the root causes of cognitive issues. Learn more about SAAGE.

UFOV®
In addition to meeting the SAAGE criteria, InSight (or program for visual processing and memory) incorporates UFOV. UFOV is a visual training and assessment technology that has been the subject of numerous studies, many funded by the National Institutes of Health. This important design element enables InSight users to experience a broad range of benefits, from improved reaction times, to expanded area over which individuals can see without moving their head or eyes (useful field of view), to better overall health and well-being. Exercise Descriptions and Goals

Brain Fitness Program
The Brain Fitness Program includes six exercises:

Screen Shot Exercise Name Goal
High or Low? Encourages faster sound processing to help the brain respond to even the quickest speech
Tell Us Apart Gives the brain practice distinguishing similar sounds to help it interpret speech and store clear memories of it
Match It! Aims to improve the clarity of memory by sharpening the precision with which the brain processes sound
Sound Replay Pushes the brain to remember information in order, which affects the ability to engage in and remember conversation
Listen and Do Works out working memory, the short-term memory that is critical in almost all cognitive tasks related to thinking
Story Teller Promotes stronger memory for details to strengthen communication abilities

InSight
InSight includes five exercises:

Screen Shot Exercise Name Goal
Bird Safari Sharpens your visual precision and expands your useful field of view so you capture more visual information, more accurately
Jewel Diver Exercises divided attention so you can track multiple moving objects at the same time
Sweep Seeker Speeds up visual processing so you can spot and react to things more quickly
Road Tour Expands your useful field of view and speeds up processing for safer navigation and faster reaction
Master Gardener Works out your working memory so you can recall visual details

Recommended Schedules
Posit Science programs are designed to be easy-to-use and to fit into any lifestyle. Regular use can range from a few minutes a day to as much time as a user prefers. However, our science team has created recommended schedules to guide users and ensure that they experience the best program benefits. One session in these schedules averages between 40 and 60 minutes.

Whatever schedule you choose, keep in mind that as with physical fitness, brain fitness requires some time to achieve. You cannot expect great results without putting in some effort!

The Benefits of Using More Than One Program
Each Posit Science program is effective independently, but they are designed to complement one another. Each program focuses attention on a specific domain of the brain—the auditory cortex for the Brain Fitness Program and the visual cortex for InSight—while still giving the brain a widespread workout. We believe that doing both will amplify positive effects and help users feel as sharp as possible.

Scientific Validation
Dozens of studies, many published in peer-reviewed journals, have demonstrated the effectiveness of Posit Science programs. Review our studies and results.
